Aswan Governorate is considered a border governorate, as it is the southern gateway to Egypt on the border with the State of Sudan. Aswan Governorate is located in the south of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and its capital is the city of Aswan. One of its most famous cities is Abu Simbel, home to the famous temple of King Ramesses II, where the sun crosses the king’s crown twice a year. Geography of Aswan Governorate:

Aswan Governorate, as we mentioned previously, is considered a border and remote governorate located in the far south of Egypt, near the Egyptian-Sudanese border.
It is bordered to the north by Luxor Governorate, especially the center of Esna, to the east by the Red Sea Governorate, to the west by New Valley Governorate, and to the south by the State of Sudan, north of the Tropic of Cancer at latitude 22 degrees. Aswan Governorate is considered a remote governorate due to some of it, less than 900 kilometers from the capital, Cairo.

 

History of Aswan Governorate:

The importance of Aswan has appeared since ancient times, especially during the era of the ancient Egyptian state, as it was the southern gateway to the Egyptian state.
As the city of Aswan played a decisive role in defending Egyptian national security, especially in fighting the Hyksos, the city of Aswan also enjoys the presence of many archaeological temples such as the Temple of Philae, Abu Simbel, Horus, and Kom Ombo.
Aswan also developed historically, especially in the tenth century AD, as it was a passageway for caravans and travelers, from where trade trips began to the coastal region of Aydhab on the Red Sea, and then the sea journey began to the countries of the Hijaz and Yemen. Aswan is also known as the center of the first military school established in Egypt in 1837. At the hands of Muhammad Ali Pasha, who took care of the city of Aswan as a defensive gateway to Egypt from the southern side.

The Unfinished obelisk:-
Its height is approximately forty-one meters and its base is about four metres. As for its weight, it is approximately 117 tons.
